Hancock Residence
Bedford-Stuyvesant, NY, 2024
A renovation of a townhouse on a quiet street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, carried out in close collaboration with the client and unified by a consistent material approach.
The south-facing living area is arranged with perimeter seating and a stone coffee table anchoring the space. Linen upholstery and sheer drapery soften the natural light throughout the room. A single artwork belonging to the client provides a calm focal point.
A pair of bathrooms on the upper floor were fully renovated using the same material language. Vertical stacked tiles line the walls, while terrazzo is used at horizontal surfaces to add warmth and durability.
The cellar, previously prone to flooding, was stripped back and fitted with a drainage system and water-diverting membrane along the foundation walls—subtle interventions that support long-term use. The interior was treated as a fresh insert, modern in tone. Oak joinery defines a slatted stair wall and built-in laundry station. Verde Antigua marble and deep green Venetian plaster bring material richness and tonal depth to the bathroom.
