Paulus Hook Brownstone
Paulus Hook Townhouse
Jersey City, NJ, (In Construction)
A restrained renovation of a historic townhouse in downtown Jersey City. The design focuses on updating the kitchen and bathrooms while working within the home’s existing structure and character.
In the kitchen, the design preserves the rhythm of the original rear façade, maintaining the scale and spacing of its existing brick openings. A palette of dark-stained oak, warm whites, and geometric blue zellige tile introduces texture and depth. Inset cabinetry and painted trim reference the home’s period detailing, balanced by more expressive surfaces that define the space as new.
The powder room continues the blue motif with painted millwork and a custom mosaic floor tile. A decorative sink and natural Cristallo quartzite introduce contrast through material variation.
In the primary bathroom, a walnut vanity and Brazilian stone form the material core of the room. Arched openings at the entry and shower niche soften the geometry and organize the space through quiet repetition.
