Sussex Townhouse

The Sussex Townhouse reimagines a five-story Greek- Rival brownstone in historic Downtown Paulus Hook as a study in old and new. Stripped back to its bones, the house becomes a blank slate for a sequence of distinct interiors.

The experience is deliberately episodic. On the garden level, deep burgundy reds and dark patterned tiling envelop the rooms, with curved joinery and trim drawing from the geometric sensuality of Art Deco. The parlor takes a quieter turn, pairing traditional wall molding and plasterwork with contemporary forms and furnishings. At the top of the house, the children’s spaces break from convention entirely, layering saturated pinks, reds, and greens into a more playful landscape.

Across five floors, color, pattern, and architectural detail become the connective tissue—allowing each level to establish its own identity while maintaining a continuous conversation between the historic townhouse and its contemporary intervention.
